Pelvic Health Physiotherapy

for Northern Ontario

Respectfully acknowledging that this service is delivered on the traditional territories of many First Nation communities across Northern Ontario.

Kelly Fleming

Pelvic Health Physiotherapist

RPT, MScPT, MSc, BSc (Hons)

Aanii/hello everyone!

My name is Kelly and I'm a Registered Pelvic Health Physiotherapist in Northern Ontario. I graduated from the University of Toronto in 2017 and right away found my passion in pelvic health. I have taken several post-MScPT courses to learn about urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic pain, pregnancy, labour & delivery (doula), post-partum care, as well as pediatric functional gastrointestinal disorders, incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction. I have experience working with First Nations individuals in their home communities, and have taken courses to learn about the delivery of culturally safe Physiotherapy sessions.

I'm so excited to provide accessible Pelvic Health Physiotherapy services to Northern Ontario. Growing up in Southern Ontario and having moved to the north, I understand how access to services can be limited, and I want to take part in bridging that gap!

I'm passionate about changing the narrative that leaking and pelvic pain are normal, empowering pregnant persons for their labour and delivery, addressing fear regarding prolapse, taking a load off mom's shoulders by traveling to her postpartum, helping kiddos develop confidently and helping men/women before and after surgical intervention. Not only that, I'm passionate about providing this specialized service to remote Northern Ontario communities.

I look forward to meeting you, hearing your story and helping you to become the best version of yourself - all in the comfort of your own home.

Are you pregnant?

Core Connect - Learn how to connect to your pelvic floor during pregnancy to reduce the risk of tearing during delivery and to speed recovery postpartum

Birth Preparation - Evidence-based information on labour positions, pushing options, breathing techniques and perineal stretching; learn about comfort measures, hospital bag essentials, how your partner can help, what to expect after birth, normal physiology during pregnancy

Enhancing Health - Staying active during pregnancy, preventing and managing pelvic girdle pain, reducing the risk of incontinence as well as core and glutes weakness

Post-partum?

Don't wait until 6 weeks after birth to seek care. Women should receive care very shortly after birth, whether they have had a cesarean section or vaginal birth. Let's address any concerns, how to move/cough/void, positioning to optimize healing, scar management and monitor adverse effects of birth. No need to worry about leaving your house, finding childcare, or bringing the baby with you to a clinical appointment. After acute management, pelvic health physiotherapy can help with incontinence, pain with intercourse, weakness associated with abdominal separation, reconnecting to your core and safely returning to physical activity.

Frequently Asked Q & A

Internal exam: Patient-centred care encourages you to be an active participant in your care. You should never feel coerced to have an internal examination. Consent to assess and treat is achieved by reviewing and understanding contraindications, risks, benefits, alternative options and adverse effects. If you do not consent to an internal vaginal or rectal exam - this is OK! Pelvic health physio is much more than solely palpating the pelvic floor and there are other ways that we can assess and address the pelvic floor! Internal exams are NOT performed on children.

Coverage: These services are covered under the category of Physiotherapy if you have extended health benefits/private insurance. A receipt will be issued after care is delivered and can be submitted by you to your provider.

Forms of Payment: Accepting credit cards, e-transfers and cash. When booking online a credit card number will be collected, but will not be charged until after the appointment.
